Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful answers to clarify your next steps.

General Questions

  • Rejoice in the Rain Counseling provide individual 1:1 therapy to adults living in Texas and Vermont. All services are fully-online for flexibility and accessibility.

  • Telehealth involves providing therapy and other healthcare-related services through technology (as opposed to seeing people in-office). It allows clients to access care from their homes or other locations using video-audio, phone calls, and secure messaging.

    Is it effective?

Research shows Telehealth is just as effective as in-person sessions, provided you do not need a higher level of care or specialized services (source).

    Is it for everyone?

Not for all conditions. In-person care is more appropriate for those who have chronic and severe suicidal ideation or non-suicidal self-injury, homicidal thoughts, involvement in serious crime, severe experiences of psychosis (hallucinations or delusions), loss of contact with reality, or dissociation, alcohol or substance usage disorder, or lack of access to a private and confidential space.

Unsure if Telehealth is right for you?

Please reach out to me at (210) 307-4935 for a free 15-minute consultation to discuss your specific circumstances!

Admin Questions

  • As a current or former patient, you have certain rights, including the following how to:

    • Request medical records (see next question)

    • Contact the state’s Executive Council

    • File a consumer complaint

To view or exercise your rights, please visit Your Patient Rights page.

  • You have the right to request a copy of your mental health records, either for yourself or to be released to an outside party.

Please submit your request to me via your secure SimplePractice portal, or if you are a former client and you do not have access to your portal anymore, email me at: Lydia@RejoiceInTheRainCounseling.com.

You must sign a Release of Information form if you want your records forwarded to an outside party.

A standard processing fee of $25 may apply.

  • This refers to FMLA paperwork, letters for accommodation, ESA letters, or other types of documentation. Please discuss any documentation requests at the beginning of treatment so I can be transparent about what I can or cannot provide.

Please know that documentation is provided after an evaluation and on a case-by-case basis. No paperwork is guaranteed.

FMLA and Letters for Accommodation: For these requests to be considered, I require meeting with you for at least 4 consecutive sessions (minimum 2 weeks), with you putting in the work required in counseling, as well as consistently participating in counseling after the paperwork is filled out. Even then, documentation is never guaranteed; it is based upon my clinical discretion and my level of training on the topic at hand.

It is my recommendation that you get this paperwork filled out by a medical provider, such as a Primary Care Physician or Psychiatrist.

Should I complete this documentation, a $75 fee will apply to cover the time that I put into the initial documentation, with additional fees for follow-up documentations and correspondence with your disability insurance. Please note that this may require extensive documentation.

Letters for Emotional Support Animals: After 3 sessions, I would be happy to provide an ESA evaluation, and if clinically indicated, the corresponding ESA letter. The evaluation is $75 to cover the cost of the assessment and documentation. Please note that an ESA letter or approval is never 100% guaranteed.

Psychological Assessments: Requests for ADHD, Autism, and other assessments may come up from time to time. I do not provide full extensive evaluations, but will refer you to a psychologist for the evaluation while continuing to work with you 1:1 in therapy sessions.

    Services I do not provide:

    • Service animal evaluations

    • Child custody evaluations

    • Forensic evaluations

    • Expert testimonies

    • Court involvement

I will be more than happy to refer you to a clinician who can help you with your request.
